Family Medicine Residency Program
Aligned with its mission to provide high-quality healthcare to the underserved population of the Tampa Bay area, TFHC has partnered with BayCare Health System to train the next generation of compassionate and dedicated family medicine physicians. BayCare is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit health system in the Tampa Bay and West Central Florida regions, known for compassionate care and clinical excellence. Spanning five counties, it encompasses 16 hospitals, numerous outpatient clinics, health centers, and ambulatory services connecting community members to essential health care services.
The Family Medicine residency program, which aims to train six residents per class, is a three-year program meticulously designed to foster an environment of continuous intellectual growth. It incorporates a comprehensive curriculum with an emphasis on community health. The program will provide both inpatient and outpatient clinic experiences across various specialties and clinical settings to ensure proficiency in the full spectrum of family medicine. Our residents will receive their hospital-based education at St. Joseph’s Hospital-South, located in Riverview, FL, and provide outpatient care to TFHC patients at the Osborne location under the direct supervision of our esteemed seasoned physicians.
Throughout their training, residents will participate in weekly didactics, where they will review the most up-to-date medical information to empower them to provide evidence-based quality care to our patients. Our family medicine residents will also be strongly encouraged to participate in research studies and quality improvement projects contributing to our community’s overall improvement. As a new program, there is immense potential for innovative ideas. TFHC and BayCare leadership aim to guide our residents in exploring unconventional paths to shape their medical education. We enthusiastically welcome novel concepts and suggestions for refining the program design and structure to ensure continuous improvement.
The establishment of this residency program and the anticipated growth of the graduate medical education (GME) department within the organization underscores TFHC’s dedication to addressing the physician shortage in community medicine and highlights our commitment to bringing the best quality of care to our Tampa Bay patients.
